THE TWO RONNIES

Where you are::Home/Euro 2016/THE TWO RONNIES

He must be going into coaching/management once his playing days are over, as his touchline activities showed the other ‘face’ of Cristiano Ronaldo last night.

As Harry Enfield said, it wasn’t Jimmy Greaves, “It’s a funny old game” and that was how it turned out in the final as the Portugal captain made the fatal mistake of being too casual in his approach when being hit by Payet.

As the ball came into him he never looked around him and that led to his being carried off. You might be alright playing the ball off up front because defenders won’t hit you like that because of giving away a penalty or a free-kick close to enemy lines, but deep in midfield, you cannot turn your back on play, (and take that from an inside forward) who got his leg broke at Derby for doing such a thing, which cost me a few months and loss of form, and even more dangerous turned my back on that car in the Mile End Road which nearly cost me my life.

So, Ronnie if your going into your new profession keep that up your sleeve for your players to avoid such a tragedy, although it turned out a winning move.

I truly believe that his leaving the field meant Portugal focused more on the match as individuals and took more responsibility as players, rather than bit-part players.

They grew whilst the hosts shrunk thinking that they only had to score one to win, and ‘Oh Boy’ what an opportunity fell to little Griezmann, the man with The Golden Boot but no winners medal thanks to a wayward header that he had shown earlier in the competition that was his ‘cup of tea’ but not here, or was it meant to be?

I watched Portugal at Wembley about three months ago and wondered how they qualified, they were that bad, and here we were watching the third placed team in the Group growing in stature as every second ticked by.

The most amazing thing in this match though was that Jose Mourinho has offered a £100million for Pogba when Sissoko (oh how they look alike on my TV set) was all the more impressive, again Harry “Its a funny old Game” and Manchester United must be wondering if Jose is going to do with them what he did to Chelsea?

I think he is not only overpriced but over-rated, but who am I to talk, for Jose has done it all and that includes destroying a good Chelsea team and a physiotherapist along the way, even though she walked away laughing all the way to the bank, but doesn’t everyone in the modern day game, ask Roy Hodgson?

Success means nothing today, or so it seems, as England players soaked up the rays whilst sweating on the beaches as Iceland sweated on the pitch at the exact same time.

Well done Portugal, and how fantastic to see their manager kick every ball with his players and then enjoy his triumph, something he’ll never ever forget in a day where all of those multi-millionaire footballers from England, Italy, Germany, Spain and Belgium all had left the building and left it to a few unknown and a few who will go onto better things, hopefully, especially the team that I would not have touched had Paddy Power given me a free bet.

Having said that had he and I took it Griezmann, no doubt, would have stuck that header away?
